Kristan & Jason | Wine Country Inn, St. Helena, CA | Calistoga Wedding | Calistoga, CA

After shooting a series of wonderful urban weddings this summer, it was delightful to shoot Kristan & Jason’s wedding, which turned out to be the quintessential backyard wedding!  After getting ready at the Wine Country Inn in St. Helena, CA, these guys were fortunate enough to have access to Jason’s father’s home in Calistoga, which, as everyone kept telling him that day, is a gem of a wedding location waiting to be discovered, and a treat for a photographer to work at.  He has carefully kept up the place, keeping a lot of the home’s original antiques usable at modern standards, and even the hallway bathroom sink was charmingly restored!  The property is blessed with some beautiful woodsy trails where we staged their first reveal, a sweet front yard with lush grass perfect for a cocktail hour, a backyard with plenty of room for an outdoor reception, a dance floor with lights, and a stage for the band to set up.  Not to mention an idillic field for the outdoor ceremony, framed by a huge oak tree (see photo of their kiss) and a view of gorgeous vineyards right behind, part of which Mr. Schingler leases to Beringer wines. And as if the setting, the time of year, the weather and the light that day weren’t perfect enough, Kristan and Jason just couldn’t be a cuter couple!  They met in law school in San Diego, are both lawyers (Kristan is a 4th generation one!) and wine buffs, and have so many moments where their expressions look so much alike… just check out the 2 photos of their reactions during the toasts!  And of course, their perfect day had to have a perfect full moon rise at the end.  Thank you to both for such an enjoyable experience!

Jazmin & John | St. Ignatius Church Wedding | San Francisco City Club Reception| San Francisco, CA Wedding

It is a truly special treat when I show up to a wedding day and I already know so many of the people involved!  The overlaps on this day were amazing… see if you can follow this:  Jazmin’s sister is Yatzin.  I was lucky enough to have photographed Yatzin’s wedding to David last year, and by incredible coincidence, Jazmin was already engaged to John, who just happened to be David’s best friend from childhood!  So besides a lot of familiar family members, I also got to work with the same florist (Lidia Sadoun of La Fleuriste) and makeup artist (Nikol Elaine), so I knew everyone and everything was going to look gorgeous!  After getting ready, our day started with a family & bridal party cable car ride/ photo session to Golden Gate Park.
For any brides thinking they would like to be able to run around San Francisco for a photo session without worrying about foot exhaustion in high heels, fancy ballet slippers ARE an option!   John & Jazmin have such a deep appreciation of architectural asthetics that I swear even my nature shots of them turned out extra-linear!  The full Catholic mass at the gorgeous St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco was next.  The first little photo stop we took immediately after the ceremony was inside the church itself – the bluish-purplish sanctuary.  It’s one of many beautiful side sanctuaries in the church, but this particular one of the Virgen de Guadalupe is where John originally proposed to Jazmin… Afterwards we had another fun photo session at the Yerba Buena Center carousel and the streets of San Francisco (where no one even got run over!!) and we ended up at the reception at San Francisco City Club.  Enjoy!
